UKSA have launched a bit of an experiment. We are calling it a "pod-ucast." It's a podcast, but it's unashamedly educational.
Podcast Presenter Ciaran Rogers talks with Simon Rowell, UKSA's Chief Instructor, about weather fronts and weather forecasting. For those of you who want to get into Meteorology, it's a great 30 min introduction (we hope).
To view the file
1)Download a copy of iTunes (or use your current copy if you have it)
2)Go to the iTunes Store in your iTunes browser
3)Search for "UKSA"
4)Subscribe to our Yachting Podcast series by hitting the subscribe button
...and start enjoying free educational video podcast content from the UKSA and their top team of instructors. To date, around 500 people a month are tuning into these podcasts, so if you aren't one of them, check them out.
We would love your feedback on this development. Maybe there is a subject you would like covered? Just email in your questions to podcast@uksa.org

Competition for Marine Jobs Increases
As the industry pauses to take stock of the current economic climate, competition for jobs has inevitably increased.
In our experience, the yachting industry has previously been resistant to the effects of short term global economic and financial trends. In a competitive employment market qualifications and experience and a make it happen attitude, (all attributes that UKSA graduates have a reputation for) are more important than ever in securing your dream job in yachting.
Our expectation is that the industry will remain relatively healthy despite the journalistic doom mongering that seems to prevail in the press currently. Our advice for those wanting to enter into the industry is to ensure they are qualified over and above the basic entry level qualifications such as STCW95, and to make full use of the mentoring guidance and careers advice provided by UKSA during their training.
Those already in the industry are well advised to look to renew or upgrade their qualifications through the UKSA’s advanced MCA training with modules available at the start and end of 2009.
