Young Islanders take to the water with free training

UKSA will be providing budding Island sailors the chance to enjoy fully funded Dinghy Instructor training this Easter. Six local young people will be given the opportunity to undertake a week's free training course from the 13th to the 17th of April, as well as gain work experience teaching others to sail during the summer period.

"We introduce over 2,000 young people to the thrills of dinghy sailing each year. At UKSA our training instructors benefit from teaching a wide range of people a variety of sailing and maritime skills, and helping those with a disadvantaged background to gain a new appreciation of themselves and the opportunities life has to offer,” said UKSA's Simon Davies. “One day you could be training a potential Olympian and the next day you'll be helping to build the confidence of somebody who has lived in an inner city all their lives and never even seen the sea before.”

To be eligible for the course, young people need to be aged between 16 and 25 and have completed Powerboat Level 2 and RYA First Aid qualifications. Those wanting to carry out the training course must also be able to complete a Dinghy Instructor pre-entry assessment and be available for nine evenings in the summer for work experience.
