Students celebrate NVQ success with UKSA

Students from across the island are celebrating academic success this month with the completion of the latest City and Guilds NVQ Course at alternative education provider, UKSA. A staggering 92% of students enrolled on this year’s course passed with flying colours, with several achieving outstanding results.

Two of the students following the course, Ed Collinge and Warren Henley Hunter, were also honoured with awards for outstanding student achievement by the Isle of Wight College in a special ceremony held at the Cowes Yacht Haven this month. Warren is also celebrating further achievement after being nominated to receive a Star Unit, a nationally recognised award for NVQ trainees who show exceptional performance during their studies.

Jon Ely, Chief Executive at UKSA, commented: “We are exceptionally proud of all our NVQ students, who are to be congratulated on their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the course. It is clear that many young people are increasingly looking for alternative, more practical options when it comes to education and training. We are delighted to be able to provide alternative education and look forward to welcoming a new set of NVQ students in September, so they too reach their full potential.”

Students choosing to study an NVQ course at UKSA also benefit from the comprehensive career advice on offer, helping them towards a rewarding career in the maritime industry after completing their training. Two of this year’s students will now be employed by UKSA for the summer season, with two more joining an apprenticeship programme which will lead to instructional qualifications in kayaking and dinghy sailing. Others will return to UKSA this autumn to begin further professional training courses.
