GMDSS GOC Courses at UKSA
With autumn and winter approaching, now is a good time to work towards your MCA Deck Officer qualifications.
If you are training for Officer of the Watch (Yacht, less than 3000gt) or Master 200gt/OOW 500gt (limited and unlimited), UKSA offers a great training venue for the GMDSS GOC course.
This intense course is a mixture of theory and practical application. The examination consists of three parts:
1. General Knowledge written examination on Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and Radio Regulations
2. Radiotelephone Communication exercise simulating a Distress situation
3. Operation and maintenance of equipment

Earn your Commercial Yachtmaster Fees!
At UKSA we have a vacancy for an on-site Evening Manager starting on 1st November until 11th April 2011.
As part of the job you would need to work 48 hours over 6 evenings a week and all your food and accommodation is provided for the duration.
However this is no ordinary job vacancy… part of your wage will be deducted and used to fund your Commercial Yachtmaster training beginning 18th April 2011!
Commercial Yachtmaster qualifications will allow you to work on boats under 24m. You will get practical sailing experience alongside shore based and navigation training. Most of the 2,500 miles of sea training will be spent on 34ft – 45ft yachts and there will be the opportunity to spend time on a 67ft Challenge yacht to boost confidence and knowledge.

Bursary for Professional Yacht Engineer course
The Shipwrights Charitable Fund makes grants to maritime charities, youth organisations and provides bursaries to help young people undertake sail training voyages.
The Shipwrights Ark Bursary will fund a bursary of £2000 to assist a deserving student to undertake the Professional Yacht Engineers course at UKSA in October 2010.
The funds will be allocated to suitably deserving case, who otherwise could not have afforded to attend a UKSA professional career training course. Anyone aged 18 – 25 can apply for this funding irrespective of race, gender or background.
